G2G received a six Month top up grant to end FGM from Amplify change titled “Building Organizational Capacity and Strategic Partnerships to address social norms relating to FGM in Sierra Leone”. The purpose of the grant is to target FGM as a social norm and will focus on working through multiple channels to create a social movement including mobilizing practicing groups and other influential decision makers. The practice of FGM thrives on social pressure for families and individuals to conform as it enables women and girls to be accepted within their social networks and fear of stigma or being rejected helps to perpetuate FGM.
The project will build strategic partnership with the inter-religious council to facilitate social norm change on FGM. On this note, G2G held an inception and briefing meeting with the executives of the inter – religious council of Sierra Leone on the 20/09/18 at the Inter religious Council Hall. It was agreed that, the council will support the mobilization of participants and provide trainers/facilitators.
